Atelier

Atelier

Only noble raw materials enter the atelier: cashmere, silk, linen, cotton and fine wool blends. The list is short on purpose. A garment cannot be finished better than the yarn it was begun with, so the decision that matters most is made before anything is cut or cast on.

Knitwear is the heritage core of the house, worked in fine gauges on machines the atelier has refined since the 1980s. That is the craft behind the Bilancioni intarsia, patterning knitted into the cloth itself rather than printed or applied onto it.

Linking and finishing are done by hand, piece by piece. Where a machine would leave a seam, a hand leaves a join, flatter against the body and quieter under a jacket. It is slower, and it is the reason a piece holds its shape for years rather than seasons.

The last thing to go into a garment is the “Tailored” emblem, sewn where only the person wearing it will find it. It marks the piece as made by a tailor, to the fit a tailor intended. It faces inward because that is who it is for.

The process

We produce what has been chosen

01

Showroom

Twice a year, in a venue taken for the season, the collection is presented to the buyers in Milano

02

The order

A boutique chooses. Piece by piece, size by size. Nothing is assumed, and nothing is produced of a guess.

03

Production

Only then do we begin. Each garment is made against that order, with the hands and time the piece asks for.

04

The following season

The collection is delivered for the season it was drawn for. It arrives when it is meant to be worn.
